Top Tips for keeping your eyes healthy

This week (20th-26th September 2021) is National Eye Health week, which aims to promote the importance of eye health and regular eye tests. There are two million people in the UK living with sight loss which is significant enough to impact their daily lives, half of this sight loss could have been avoidable if detected earlier.

A sight test can not only check the health of your eyes, but could also detect other health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Whilst eye tests may be the best way to keep on top of your eye health, take a look at these tips to keep your eyes in top shape in between visits to the opticians.

1. Nutrient-rich diet

As with all areas of health, eye health starts on your plate. Including nutrients such omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamins C and E in your diet could help ward off age-related eye problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts. Try adding foods like leafy green vegetables, oily fish, eggs, nuts, beans and citrus fruits or juices to your diet to reap the benefits of these nutrients.

2. Wear sunglasses

Too much UV exposure can increase your chances of cataracts and macular degeneration. Choosing a pair of sunglasses that blocks a minimum of 99% UVA and UVB rays can help to protect your eyes.

3. Look away from your computer screen

Many of us have jobs that require us to be on a computer for hours a day, however staring at a computer or phone screen for too long can cause eye strain, blurry vision, dry eyes and headaches.

To help protect your eyes, try the 20:20:20 method: rest your eyes every 20 minutes, looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You should also try to get up from your desk at least every 2 hours for 15 minutes.

4. Try supplements

Max Botanics Eye Defender 7 is formulated with some of the most beneficial ingredients on the planet for eye health support - lutein, zeaxanthin, meso-zeaxanthin, blackcurrant, bilberry, goji and eyebright.

These 7 ingredients work together to support against eye strain and fatigue, dry eyes, oxidative stress-induced damage and age-related eye problems.
